A. English Narrative Monolog Videos(Video Monolog Naratif Berbahasa Inggris)

Here are the useful videos to see and/or download for English Teachers (especially Junior High School Teachers in Indonesia). They really match the KTSP curriculum for Basic Competence of Listening and Speaking.

By seeing these videos, your students can get good models of storytelling. They can learn about English pronunciation--word sound, connected speech, word stress, sentence stress, etc.--, how to use the gesture, mimic, and also the intonation. This is even more useful especially as the preparation of joining Storytelling Competition.

For us, as teachers, these videos can also be something to better our skill in teaching English, not only the English itself but also the way we speak English before people especially before our students. At least, we can make our teaching more attractive. This is also a matter of public speaking skill. You know what? when I play a video of Judy Peiken performance, My 14 month old son, smiled and laughed at it. It is because Judy Peiken has distinctive gesture, mimic, stress and intonation for each character that she brings everytime she tells a story.

The video list I write here are the selection of mine. I consider to have models of story tellers in both sexes in order to the students can imitate the story teller that is appropriate to his/ her sex.

ARTI Dari "to be"

"To be" jarang diterjemahkan dalam Bahasa Indonesia, karena fungsinya sebagai penghubung. Namun demikian, kata ini secara implisit (tersirat) mempunyai beberapa arti tergantung kata selanjutnya yang mengikuti. Arti-arti tersebut adalah:
a) ADALAH
Jika diikuti kata benda, baik kata benda konkret maupun abstract.
Contoh:
This is a book --> Ini adalah sebuah buku.
I'm a student --> Saya adalah seorang murid.
It's the application --> Ini adalah aplikasinya.

b) BERADA
Jika diikuti kata keterangan tempat
Contoh:
I'm at home. --> Saya berada di rumah.
He's in the classroom. --> Dia (L) berada di ruang kelas.
My father is at work now --> Ayahku berada di tempat kerja sekarang.
They're at school. --> Mereka berada di sekolah.

c) DALAM KEADAAN
Jika diikuti kata sifat keadaan seperti happy, sad, sick
Contoh:
We're happy --> Kami dalam keadaan senang.
They're sad --> Mereka dalam keadaan sedih.
He's sick --> Dia (L) dalam keadaan sakit.

d) BERSIFAT/ BERWATAK
Jika diikuti kata sifat watak: lazy, snobbish, shy, stubborn, dll.
Contoh:
I'm shy --> Saya berwatak pemalu.
You're stubborn --> Kamu berwatak keras kepala.
He's snobbish --> Dia (L) berwatak sombong.

e) BERCIRI-CIRI FISIK
Jika diikuti kata sifat ciri-ciri fisik: tall, fat, beautiful, handsome, dll.
Contoh:
I'm fat --> Saya berciri-ciri fisik gemuk.
You're tall --> Kamu berciri-ciri fisik tinggi.
She's beautiful --> DIa (P) berciri-ciri fisik cantik.

*Bila bertemu kata kerja -ing, maka berarti sedang melakukan kata kerja tersebut.
Contoh:
I'm watching TV now --> Saya sedang menonton TV sekarang.
She was washing her car --> Di (P) sedang mencuci mobilnya. (lampau)

Langkah awal untuk belajar bahasa asing dalam hal ini Bahasa Inggris adalah kenali 100 kata tersebut baik ucapannya yang benar maupun maknanya. Setelah itu pelajari penempatannya dalam kalimat. Latih lidah, bibir, dan pita suara anda dengan kata-kata tersebut baik tersendiri maupun dalam frasa, kalimat utuh yang umum digunakan. Sebagai contoh, berikut langkah-langkahnya:
a bacanya / ə /, an bacanya / ən/ artinya bisa sebuah, seorang, seekor tergantung kata benda yang mengikutinya. Kita menggunakan a bila kata benda yang mengikuti berawalan bunyi konsonan (b, c, d, f, g, dll), sedangkan an jika kata benda yang mengikuti berawalan bunyi vokal (a, e, i, o, u). Kemudian buat dalam frasa benda atau kalau bisa kalimat utuh: a door, a dog, a goat, an apple, an owl, an hour, I have an owl.

Pada tahap ini, kita jangan hanya mengenali secara tertulis tetapi juga secara terucap (tentu saja!) dan untuk mengikat makna, visualisasikan secara mental pada tiap kata tersebut. Jadi, dengan kata lain ketika kita menghapal kata Bahasa Inggris kita harus bisa menghadirkan dalam pikiran kita memori terucap, memori tertulis dan asosiasi pada saat yang bersamaan.
Contoh: Kata “BIG”
Hadirkan tulisan big dalam pikiran kita pada saat yang bersamaan ucapan big terngiang di telinga kita serta terbayang hal yang besar-besar seperti gajah, truk, bis, gunung, dsb.
